Project snapshot:
The project is addressing the development of new Airport Safety support tools for pilots and controllers with focus on airport operations, as a continuation of the work successfully completed in SESAR 1. This includes safety alerts for controllers; conformance monitoring safety alerts for the flight crew; traffic alerts for the flight crew; runway excursions safety support tool.
Despite of actions that have been taken in the past to reduce the number of runway incursions, prevent collisions on the apron and taxiway with traffic and fixed obstacles, there is still potential to improve safety, especially as the airport surface becomes more congested.
